Error codeF8E4

Quick answer
F8E4 owner help centers on new installs: connections, float switch, drip tray and suds. Service tables list a drain motor fault.
Model compatibility: KitchenAid reuses codes across series and model years, so F8E4 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Owner help: check connections, float switch, drip tray water and suds. Service tables: drain motor electrical problem.
Is the dishwasher new? That question organizes KitchenAid’s F8E4 advice for owners, where the code is tied to water found in the drip tray. In the technician tables, the same code instead describes a drain motor electrical problem.
If the dishwasher was installed recently
Connections to the water supply
Seat the rubber washer correctly at every connection point.
The 90 degree elbow has a 3/4 inch (19 mm) fitting that slides to the valve. Start it by hand so it does not cross-thread, then use pliers to check it. Sealing the gasket might need another 1/4 to 1/2 turn.
The fill hose should leave through the back-left side of the dishwasher.
Float switch
To reattach, align the connector and housing and press them together until the locking tab shows above the back of the connector. Neither the power cord nor the wire should touch the dishwasher motor or the bottom of the tub.
Drip tray
Water in the tray needs to be emptied.
Clearing it from the display
One press of Cancel quiets the alarm.
A further press of Cancel removes the code.
Suds
KitchenAid points out that soap meant for hand washing foams while dishwasher detergent stays flat. Foam can shove water out of the unit and cause leaks or weak cleaning. Seeing suds on opening the door means switching the dishwasher off and letting them settle; only automatic dishwasher detergent belongs in it.
When a professional installed it
KitchenAid devotes a separate section to this case. The unit starts draining and will not operate. The listed response: close the water supply, press Cancel once to stop the alarm, keep the door shut and leave the power on.
What the service tables mean by F8E4
Technicians read it as a drain motor electrical problem. The list covers a loose connection or an open winding, debris in the impeller, an open fuse, and a drive circuit on the control. The owner help page does not include these, and they call for a technician.
